20 Jul Sanserif Creatius takes the grandfather clock and turns it into an environamentally-friendly contemporary design
Sanserif Creatius has taken the classic grandfather clock and transformed it into an environmentally-friendly design for contemporary interiors. As Ana Yago, the brand’s Creative Director, explained, the structure of its Grandpa Clock is made entirely with biodegradable corrugated cardboard.

In fact, Yago said that Grandpa Clock is the first in a new line of objects for the home targeting a generation committed with the environment, for whom social and environmental values are on a par with other key factors like aesthetics, ergonomics or functionality.
This piece is conceived using a series of die-cut sections imitating the carved volumes and contours so characteristic of the classic grandfather or standing clock, coupled with the clock’s conventional workings, pendulum and case, explains Yago. She also wished to underscore that maintaining these parts gives the piece a vintage feel that fits in well with contemporary interiors. Besides, Grandpa Clock also comes in a more slender wall version with smaller spaces in mind.

Grandpa Clock recovers and reinterprets the classic yet almost vanished standing clock once such a familiar feature in the homes of our grandparents. The new reworked version is more suited to contemporary homes, while stirring our consciences and obviously fulfilling its primary purpose of telling the time.
Grandpa Clock will have its world premiere during the upcoming Feria Habitat Valencia, opening this coming September 28 and running through October 2. The piece will be on display in Three Little Pigs, an exhibition inspired by the children’s fairytale and featuring a collection of totally biodegradable furniture and objects for the home made of corrugated cardboard (Level 2. Atrium).
