10 May Wines dressed with vegetable fibres and frames of 'esparto' for contemporary photography
Vegetal covers to dress autochthonous broths and 100% natural frames which open new business opportunities to the traditional fabric of Esparto are the proposals incorporated by the Valencian design team Sanserif.es to the exhibition ‘Fibras vegetales. Las plantas nos ayudan a vivir’. This hosts the Botanical Garden of Valencia until next October.
These parts which are designed by Sanserif.es and produced by local artisans, seek to recover techniques and traditional processes based on plant fibers to meet the needs of contemporary society. In addition, it ensures the survival of these trades and reduces the environmental impact of production processes and future recycling.
The exhibition shows specifically a triptych of 170×225 cm called Marco which introduces the and reduction of the environmental impact in the field of art, through the elaboration of a natural and decorative production made 100% of esparto. This handmade piece, totally natural, opens new avenues for the traditional business, which is being diminished in Spain, at the same time that presents this material in an unexplored sector in Spain until nowadays: the art.
As the creative director of Sanserif.es Ana Yago explains, the esparto is a very interesting material to protect a piece of work, especially the photography, due to its durability and resistance. The aim of this proposal is to show society how a “poor” material can become an Essentials supplement for luxury products, and also to provide added value.
In order to demonstrate the virtues of this material, a triptych has been made with exclusive images from the photographer Eduardo Peris, belonging to the series Raw Matters, a collection of portraits about materials that artisans use for their job, clay, piece of glass, metal,… They use the body-painting technique, in a session whose creative direction is carried out by the same Ana Yago.
To see and smell wine. Likewise, the other project presented by Sanserif.es, called ‘Natural’, pretends to wear the bottles with the aroma and colour of wine that put up with an aim: to expand the business for a traditional technique –the warp- and a natural material –rattan core–. This product has been conceived as a dress of rattan core which transfers the consumer the tonalities and the smell of wine aroma which accompanies. A newborn development to renew the relation between the consumer and the product, at the same time that adds information and causes added values, as the same Ana Yago has explained.
In fact, this piece has a decorative vocation, but also has a clear commercial function, since transfers to senses that wine label provides us. However, it should translate it so that any consumer can have an access to her easily.
